regarding the retrieval problems I have with the My Book! Voila'!!!!! You could clone it or copy all your data off of it, then replace it.
Still the LED light is glowing but not blinking on startup. & it has some strange noise coming from, before it was operating silently. Maybe I'm just lucky though. Verify the external drive is functioning on the latest firmware release. Oh and Western Digital makes great drives if you get their Scorpio Blue or Black drives.
