Every time I boot up, the computer fails to get past Windows screen. Windows Vista Won't Boot Black Screen

I have explained that my vista laptop just went dead. I can see everything running in the background like wifi etc. My computer won't go past the login screen and all I see if a black screen with an arrow. The most recent error, today (5/1/09) was "0x0000000a (0x0000000000000880, 0x000000000000000c, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80001e7c989)."After the issue in March, I went for weeks without being able to do Vista updates.

I logged in and everything but then the screen turned black. So right off the bat, I'm using a brand new laptop that has a browser that is not truly compatible with my Windows system.
